yep, we’re talking about Abby Lee Miller! But the Devil’s Advocate is ME. Now, love her or hate her, Abby’s a name you can’t ignore if you’ve ever seen a dance show, especially Dance Moms. But today, I’m playing Devil’s Advocate. Why? Because my opinions on Abby are more tangled than a pair of ballet tights after rehearsal.
On one hand, she’s the drill sergeant of dance. She pushes her students to be their absolute best, producing champions who can leap higher than my self-esteem on a good day. But on the other hand, her teaching methods? Well, they’ve been called… questionable, to say the least. There’s yelling, tears, and more drama than a soap opera marathon.
Let’s not forget her infamous pyramid rankings. Imagine being a kid and having your week decided by where your headshot lands on a whiteboard. Yikes! And then there’s her legal troubles—because yes, Abby's been to prison. But hey, even from behind bars, she still kept her dance empire alive.
So, how do we balance the good, the bad, and the utterly chaotic? That’s what we’re here to figure out. Let’s explore the dual sides of Abby Lee Miller, one pirouette at a time. Stay tuned, because this is going to be one wild ride!
So in today’s video we are going to be taking a look at a new interview released of Abby Lee Miller on Matt Steffanina’s Youtube channel. If you are unfamiliar with Matt, he is one of the biggest dance creators on the platform over the past decade, and I personally found this interview with Abby to be so well done that it could be it’s own episode on Netflix.
As I mentioned before my feelings towards Abby and the entire franchise of Dance Moms is extremely conflicting and complicated. I actually credit my social media career to a large degree to Abby Lee Miller and I don’t think I would have seen the success I had as a professional dancer, NOR as a content creator here on Youtube and Tiktok if it wasn’t for Abby, her teachings, her expertise, her approach and of course the TV show. If It wasn’t for Dance Moms, I don’t think Dance Coach Reacts series ever would have seen the virality it did, and if it wasn’t for Abby’s perfectionistic yet highly educated approach, I don’t think I would have been so influenced and inspired by both her and the dancers in her studio, as far back as when I was just starting my first years of dance training.
So with all that being said, we are going to take a look at this interview with Abby, examine everything she has to say about her experience with Dance Moms and her treatment of a decade of young dancers , and I am going to be completely honest with my opinions on the notorious Dance coach, and how I feel about the good, the bad, and the ugly things she did on her rise to fame and her falling from the dance throne.
So without further ado, let me be your Devils Advocate on Abby, grab a snack and let’s hop into it
